There’s even blood in the North American version, and I think I even saw a butt. The music, the graphics, and the design all have that ’90s Sega edge. The major one is the fact that it definitely has that Genesis ‘tude. There are a few things that separate Castlevania: Bloodlines from other games in the series. Actually, Castlevania: Bloodlines takes place in 1917, so there was probably some archaic indecency law that would have nailed him to the wall for showing off so much of his gams. Then there’s Eric Lecarde, who I appreciate for rocking a skirt, but its pink hue is a little much. You have John Morris, who wears suspenders with jeans, and to make matters worse, the suspenders go over his vest. In that sense, I give the edge to Castlevania: Bloodlines, if only slightly.Ĭastlevania: Bloodlines puts the spotlight on two of the biggest fashion disasters to ever walk the halls of Dracula’s Castle. My appreciation for games tends to lean not toward the games that accomplish more, but rather how well they accomplish the things they do. Lesser, as in the Bloodlines minotaurs are less sexy than the one in Rondo. It’s a great game, and to be fair, Castlevania: Bloodlines has those things, just in lesser amounts. It provided things like branching paths, multiple characters, and a load of secrets to uncover. History shows that Rondo of Blood would have the most influence on the series’ future. When you look this good, you don’t have to know anythingįor some perspective, Castlevania: Bloodlines was released in 1994, the year following Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and three years after Super Castlevania IV.
